The Blog

This blog is a place I created to explore my views on both the Christian faith and the political challenges facing the American people. I am happy to have you along for the ride!

Faith

This blog will delve into the Christian faith and various subjects related to it. I have been a lifelong non-denominationalist, but have recently become a confirmed Catholic. Throughout, I have been a Christian. My journey to this place serves as the backdrop for my faith-driven posts.

Politics

When I say “politics” I do not mean it in the conventional red/blue sense. Rather, I am more interested in looking at the issues that both sides agree are problematic, and yet continue. Figuring out how to move forward on these issues is the key to ensuring our democracy remains strong.

Crossroads

Why the name? Because my faith is so heavily intertwined with who I am that it would be impossible for me to discuss politics without its influence permeating my opinion. Thus, there is always a crossroad for me when discussing any matter of the world. I do not apologize for this.

Who Am I?

The question “Who are you?” is always contextual.

For the context of this blog, I can answer the question thusly: my name is Daniel Anthony and I am, first and foremost, a Christian. I am also an American, and someone deeply concerned about the problems our nation is facing. I created this blog to better develop my thoughts on these two key components of who I am, and to hopefully bring about some understanding in the process.

For the context of my family, I can give this answer: I am a proud husband to an engineer wife and father to two amazing boys. I have several close friends who I consider my family, as well, and would do anything for.

For the context of the world, I can give this answer: I am an alumnus from the University of Texas at Austin, where I majored in Economics. I am a veteran Navy Officer; I drove ships for a number of years. I am an alumnus of the University of Florida Levin College of Law where I received my Juris Doctorate. I am an attorney licensed to practice in the great state of Florida. I am a former law clerk for the Honorable John MacIver at Florida’s Fifth District Court of Appeal. I am a published legal writer. And I am currently a JAG in the United States Air Force, where I chiefly work as a prosecutor in both misdemeanor and felony cases.

All of these together boil down who I am pretty succinctly. You will notice that I am not a philosopher. I am not a poet. I am not a statesman. I am not a theologian. So why should you listen to me? Why read what I write? Because I am not those things, and so my viewpoint as I develop and grow my theology and politics is much more likely to coincide with your own than if I had an agenda driven by my background and profession.

Like you, I am just seeking the truth. Pontius Pilate once asked Christ—in the ultimate meeting of faith and politics—“What is truth?” Let’s find out together.

Disclaimer

As noted above, I am currently a JAG attorney for the United States Air Force. This means I am an Air Force Officer, and subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). What I say or write in this blog will not, and is not intended to, disparage the President, Congress, or the Governor of the state in which I am currently stationed. Further, nothing I write here is endorsed by the Department of Defense or the American Government, generally. As noted, the political issues I intend to cover are non-partisan. In some cases both sides want to fix them, in other cases neither side does. Regardless, I will not be taking partisan positions in this blog in order to ensure I do not violate the UCMJ or my ethics as an Officer. I love my nation and my job, and intend to preserve both.
